My name is Margaret Mute, and I currently reside in Upper Kalskag, where I was raised. My parents were the late Phillip and Elizabeth (Nicholi) Gregory. My late husband John and I have four adult children, 22 grandchildren, and one great-grandson. I recently completed my 33rd year of employment at Kalskag High School, where I served as a special education aide for 11 years, a classroom aide, a Yup'ik instructor, a secretary, and eventually returned to teaching Yup'ik—a role I plan to continue until I retire. I enjoy spending time at home with my children, grandchildren, and great-grandson, as family is my top priority. One of my favorite pastimes is reading, but I also love to travel. In fact, one of the things on my bucket list is to drive down the Alcan Highway, and my nephew, son, daughter, and I are planning to do just that next summer!
