Bart Mwarey

Kalskag Schools Principal

I graduated from Kodiak Regional (Boarding) High School. I got my B.A. in Sociology from the University of Hawaii at Hilo and received my Master Degree from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in Ed. I have worked at Hilo Hukilike Alternative School as a social studies teacher and later became the director there. I moved to Grayling, in 1987 where I began my adventure teaching in rural Alaska in villages like Grayling, Anvik, McGrath, Takotna, Nikolai, Telida, and Lake Minchumina, Galena, Hoonah, Nuiqsut, Metlakatla, Hydaburg and now here in Kalskag. I helped start the first two charter schools in Alaska (Takotna Training Center and Charter School, the Project Education Charter School (GILA) and a Private School in Kona Hawaii --The High School of the Pacific. In addition, I have also helped in the creation of the IDEA Distance Learning Program for Galena City School District, the Iditarod Distance learning Program and the Hydaburg City School District's Totem Correspondence Program. My interests include hunting, fishing, learning about different cultures and watching movies.
